To satisfy the market, film and television projects, as well as expeditions, are travelling to increasingly extreme and potentially hostile environments. Many of these countries have less than first, or even second-world healthcare.
Often the team is far from help, sometimes days. Crucially S2Si has been there, done that and knows having an extreme-environment doctor on the ground can help ensure that when the worst does happen, your team is assessed, treated and managed in the most appropriate fashion quickly.
Why have a medic?
If a problem can be dealt with locally this can often obviate the need for a casevac. No one wants to fall ill or have a project ruined because someone on the team has “gone down”. Therefore S2Si is there to not only provide first-class medical care, but also to minimise disruption to filming. This allows you to get on with the important tasks and filming objectives of the expedition, safe in the knowledge that your team has solid medical support with instant access to satellite, radio and mobile communication.
All our medics are equipped with a full medical kit, bespoke-designed and adapted for each particular client group, duration of stay, and environments likely to be encountered. This means the medicine we practice is tailored right from the outset, not only to your requirements, but to our high standards. Medicine far from help, by its very nature has to be dynamic. Our ground team is backed up by 24/7 advice from our medical team in the UK and we have access to a panel of specialist advisers, including our expert medical consultant with a wealth of experience.
S2Si has an in-house medical director with extensive experience both in undertaking aero-medical retrieval and repatriation, and organising the same. Boasting a wealth of experience in worldwide medical logistics we have an extensive, regularly updated database of in-country medical facilities and ground agents, many of whom we deal with on a regular basis. This, accompanied by our local knowledge, means you can get the job done and leave us to deal with support behind the scenes. In-house we use the latest protocols in extreme healthcare managment, these are always in continual development with much coming from the latest military innovations. We supply up-to-the-minute advice for the television and expedition industry.
At S2Si all our expedition leaders have undergone expedition medical training and are required to update their skill sets and knowledge on a frequent basis. At the heart of a safe trip is exceptional preparation. With that in mind we are happy to advise or provide a number of additional services including fully indemnified 24 hour medical support by UK registered physicians, risk assessments and casevac plans, including pre-expedition medical advice for all crew, satellite phones, radios, EPIRBS, and extreme wilderness medical kits - including fluids and drugs. The service is such that we can undertake as little or as much as you wish.
Expert Panel
S2Si draws on over two decades of expertise in the expedition and health and safety industry. To complement this experience we have harnessed a panel of key advisors which provides our company with a pool of expertise to rival any in the industry. This panel contains health and safety experts and professionals - those that have worked in higher education for many years, outdoor technicians, expedition medics, insurance and legal consultants. Marrying knowledge and experience under one umbrella allows S2Si to draw on this wealth of expertise as and when the need arises, at a moments notice. Thus ensuring the company stays ahead of the latest and relevant protocols, and has an invaluable resource to refer to.
