Although Canada is one of the largest countries in the world, it holds only about one tenth of the population of the United States with about three quarters of the population living near the southern edge, close to the border. As you might imagine, because of this there are vast stretches of natural land totally unspoiled by human industrial influence. Ecotourism is popular here because of its status as being relatively pristine to begin with; many people traveling throughout Canada seek to minimize or at best eliminate their impact on the land so that it can retain this character.
Canada has one of the longest coastlines of any country and a great number of sandy beaches that despite their mild temperatures still offer a great opportunity to cool off and enjoy the oceans during the summer months. With such a massive coast there are what seem like innumerable bays and sounds; they have given rise to large communities of leisure sailors and large shipping, as well as boating ports. Places with such atmosphere have a charm that is all their own and should be visited if possible. One great example of a city with this influence is Victoria, located on the edge of the Puget sound near the US border. Its location also lends itself well to seafood lovers, with fresh catch being brought in daily and wonderful restaurants to serve it up.
Canada is also home to the largest number of freshwater lakes in all of the world, giving it great appeal for swimming, kayaking, water skiing, fishing, and power boating. Many of these lakes are surrounded by fantastic views of tall mountains that reflect of their clear blue surface, adding to the feeling of isolation with nature. Places like these are great for expeditions because of the variety of activities available at one location; if one has gotten their fill of the water’s experience they can move straight on to trekking up the mountain without having to travel far at all.
For those who prefer their outdoor adventure to unfold exclusively at higher altitudes, there are many scenic locations that are sure to impress including a surprising number of active and inactive volcanoes and volcanic complexes. Winding trails from relaxing to considerably challenging run up and down these structures with seemingly no end; that is, until you reach the top. Traveling these paths can be accomplished by various means from hiking on foot, to bicycling, to riding on mule or horseback. Some methods are more passive and relaxing while others are more engaging and challenging; the one you choose is simply a matter of personal preference. Of course, there is an additional option for people who truly want to test themselves during their expeditions; going straight up! There are plenty of faces and cliffs on certain mountains which are particularly well suited to rappelling and rock climbing, and these locations are generally accompanied by trails as well ensuring multiple paths of passage.
Those who take the time to visit the expansive wilderness of Canada and experience its unparalleled beauty will be changed forever by the impression it leaves on them.

A huge country, loads of activities – let S2Si take you on an adventure holiday you wont forget!
Kayaking, one of our director’s favourites! Canada is the home of kayaking expeditions – lakes, rivers and coastal, take your pick! Not sure which season you want to travel in, Canada suits all seasons. Downhill and cross country skiing, winter trekking in stunning national parks, and my personal favourite, husky tours.
Just because Canada is well developed with good infrastructure doesn’t mean expeditons or adventure tours can disregard or relax their safety measures. The mountains, rivers, national parks etc, of Canada are remote areas where professional expedition planning needs to be carried out, especially if there are high risk activities taking place.
If Canada seems like a place where you want an adventure vacation or an energetic family adventure holiday then get in touch and we can make it happen.
